About This Call
The City of El Paso Public Art Program seeks to commission a professional artist or artist team to design, fabricate, and install site-specific artwork at the Montana RTS Far East Transfer Center, located at 12950 RC Poe near the intersection of RC Poe Street and Edgemere Boulevard. The Far East Transfer Center is a new fully enclosed structure serving the fourth line of the Montana Rapid Transit System, which will run between Five Points and Far East El Paso. The transfer center will include amenities such as cashiers, ticket vending machines, restroom facilities, arrival/departure displays, and a concessionaire area. The project will also include a 150-space surface parking lot serving as a park-and-ride facility.
This public art project will commission an artist or artists to design and develop an interactive or functional public art piece within the Far East Transfer Center. The artist will have the opportunity to fully engage with the community in developing the concept and design of the artwork. The total project budget is $100,000 to include design, fabrication, and installation. The budget is all-inclusive and must cover design fees, travel expenses, all materials and fabrication costs, insurance costs, engineering expenses, shipping and transportation to the site, and installation costs.
Applications will be reviewed by an Artist Selection Panel, which will select a finalist to proceed to the next phase. The finalist will be presented to the Public Art Committee for approval. The selected artist will provide design proposals for review and approval prior to fabrication and installation. Design proposals will be evaluated based on artistic merit, appropriateness in scale and form, feasibility of construction and installation, budget and timeline feasibility, and alignment with the project's goals. Work sample requirements: minimum 1 image, maximum 6 images; audio and video samples are optional (maximum 5 each).
