Fantastical Juried by Aubrey Jewel Rodgers

Fantastical is an annual juried exhibition celebrating the power of narrative storytelling in various visual forms. Both traditional and digital arts are welcomed, from graphic novel layouts to oil paintings. Media and mediums can mix and mingle to inspire wonder and hope. The exhibition runs August 17 through September 21, 2024, at South Haven Center for the Arts, 600 Phoenix St, South Haven, MI 49090.

The exhibition is inspired by Neil Gaiman's 2012 commencement speech calling artists to "make good art" and "make your own art." The juror is Aubrey Jewel Rodgers, a multi-media artist, teacher, and Chair of Applied Arts and Media Technologies at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Her work mixes traditional art mediums with technology and innovation.

Entry deadline is Monday, July 15, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET. Entry fees are $35.00 for up to two pieces, or $15.00 for students and artists economically challenged by unforeseen events (use coupon code REDUCE). South Haven Center for the Arts members receive $10 off (use code MEMBER2024). Awards include $500 for First Place and $250 for Second Place. Entries are open to artists 18 years and older residing in the United States and Tribal Nations. Maximum of two works can be submitted. All work must be original and completed in the last five years. Size limits: 2D works maximum 72" high x 55" wide; 3D works must fit through a standard doorway and weigh no more than 50 lbs. All work must be framed and exhibition ready. Wall hanging work must be wired (no sawtooth hangers). Digital and video art must include a viewing screen set up for gallery display. Delivery of accepted work is August 1-10, 2024, or by appointment. Shipped work must arrive by Friday, August 9, 2024. Opening reception is Friday, August 16, 5-7pm. Pick-up is September 24-28, 2024, or September 21 from 4-4:30pm. A 35% commission is received by SHCA for works sold during the exhibition.
