About This Call
This online regional juried exhibition celebrates imaginative visions of fantastical flora and fauna. The South Haven Center for the Arts invites artists to submit work inspired by Frida Kahlo's garden at Casa Azul and the indigenous Mexican plants and animals that inspired her paintings.
The exhibition is open to artists 18 years of age or over in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. All work must be original and completed within the last three years. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces of artwork. The entry fee is $30.00 for up to three pieces (Artist Members of SHCA receive a $10 discount). Each submission requires a JPEG image, title, and brief statement explaining how the piece relates to the theme. The juror is Stephanie Lewis Robertson, Program Chair for Fine Arts at Ivy Tech Community College.
Awards include $200 for 1st Place Best in Show and $100 for 2nd Place. The exhibition runs September 25 – November 7, 2020, presented online in a virtual image gallery at southhavenarts.org. A virtual opening reception on Zoom will be held Friday, September 25, 5-6 PM EST, with award announcements. Accepted work images must be submitted by September 16, 2020, in JPG format at 300 DPI, 6 inches on the longest side, 1800 pixels on the longest side, and 1-5 MB file size. Exhibited work may be sold at the price specified by the artist; SHCA receives a 35% commission on sales. The organization reserves the right to use accepted entries for publicity and social media promotion.
