About This Call
The Art in Public Places Program enriches New Mexico's public spaces through an innovative and diverse public art collection. Since its inception in 1986, the program has placed more than 2,500 works of art in all of New Mexico's 33 counties. Through a fair and open public process, committees made up of local and regional representatives work with New Mexico Arts staff to select artwork for their communities.
FANTASE Fest is a new media interactive light festival taking place on June 18, 2016 at DeVargas Park in El Parque del Rio in Santa Fe. The event will run from 6:00pm until approximately 12:00am. Proposed pieces must incorporate light-based media with performative elements or installation elements. The artwork must be visible in daylight hours OR visible in dark hours and may have an accompanying sound element or be strictly visual. The work can be interactive but is not required to be. Wi-Fi is not available in the park.
Artwork must be low maintenance, safe for both children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave a permanent mark on the environment when removed. No artwork requiring concrete pads or other environmentally damaging approaches will be considered. No adhesives, ropes, banners, or fixtures may be attached to the Ramada structure or the Sun Dial structure. Pieces may not enter the skatepark. Artwork must be sufficiently secured against high winds and intense weather conditions. At the agreed upon time of removal, the artist will return the installation site to its original condition.
Up to $5,000 is available per project, including all fees and expenses such as materials, equipment, labor, permits, engineering documents, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, shipping, identification plaque, and documentation. This request for qualifications is open to all artists or artist teams who are legal residents of New Mexico. Artists in all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. Submission deadline is March 31, 2016. Grant awardees will be announced April 8, 2016. Artwork must be installed by June 18, 2016, with removal and site restoration on June 19, 2016.
Submissions must include a detailed project proposal, current resume or curriculum vitae, and 5-10 images of project proposal or previously completed work with complete citations. Artists wishing to include audio or video should provide a URL in the project description. Questions should be directed to Katelyn Peer at [email protected] or 505.288.3531, or Michelle Laflamme-Childs at [email protected].
