About This Call
Laguna College of Art & Design invites Fine Art and Illustration alumni and MFA students to participate in the Fairhaven Mausoleum Art Exhibition, A.D. 2010. This unique exhibition creates a union of art and architecture within Fairhaven, a century-old memorial park mausoleum in Santa Ana. Built in 1916 and included in the National Register of Historical Places, the venue features a stone and marble structure of approximately 20,000 square feet with 30-foot ceilings, marbled walls and floors, and stained glass windows, nestled within a grove of one-hundred-year-old Monterey Cypress trees.
Artists may submit up to six images of 2D artworks (paintings, drawings, etchings, printmaking, illustrations) and/or 3D artworks (sculpture). The entry fee is $40 per artist, regardless of the number of pieces submitted. Submissions are accepted from August 3 through September 30 via the CAFÉ website. The jury will select qualifying artists during the first week of October, with final judging from live work on opening day, Friday, November 5. Awards will be given to the top three winners: Best in Show (1st place), Award of Excellence (2nd place), and Honorable Mention (3rd place). The top 20 pieces will receive an extended one-week exhibition at the LCAD gallery following the Fairhaven exhibition.
The three-day exhibition runs November 5-7, 2010, co-sponsored by Fairhaven Memorial Park and LCAD. Opening night features a wine and cheese reception with the awards ceremony at 7 PM. A closing artist's reception with live music will be held Sunday, November 7, from 3-5 PM. Art delivery is Friday, November 5, 9-11 AM only. Given the sensitivity of the venue as a working mausoleum, nudes should be discreet and subjects such as suicide or torture should be avoided. Large-scale pieces (larger than 48" x 48") cannot exceed 5" in depth; medium to small-scale pieces (smaller than 45" x 45") cannot exceed 2" in depth. For questions, contact Tracy Hartman ([email protected]) or Regina Jacobson ([email protected]).
