About This Call

The Fairhaven 2008 Juried Exhibition is a four-day event held at Fairhaven Mausoleum, a century-old memorial park located in Santa Ana that borders Orange and Tustin. The venue is a stone and marble structure built in 1916, approximately 20,000 square feet with 30-foot ceilings, marbled walls and floors, and stained glass windows. It is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

The exhibition is co-sponsored by Fairhaven Memorial Park and LCAD and invites submissions of up to six images of 2D artworks (paintings, drawings, etchings, prints, illustrations) and/or 3D artworks (sculpture). All accepted artworks should be framed and ready for easel display. Large-scale pieces are displayed on risers (36" tall, 12" deep), while other 2D works are displayed on easels and sculptures on pedestals. Given the sensitivity of the venue, nudes are requested to be restricted to discreet female figures. The entry fee is $40 per artist, regardless of the number of pieces submitted. Submission deadline is September 30, 2008 at 10 p.m. PST via CAFÉ.

The jury includes Peter Frank (independent art scholar and critic), Richard MacDonald Jr. (owner and director of Dawson Cole Fine Art), Mat Gleason (founder and publisher of Coagula), and Joshua Rose (editor of American Art Collector). All juried artists receive a participation certificate. Three pieces will receive cash awards announced at the 7 p.m. awards ceremony on opening night (November 13): Best of Show $1,000, Award of Excellence $500, and Honorable Mention $250. The exhibition runs November 13-16, 2008, with an opening reception and candlelight viewing on November 13. Insurance is provided for all artworks during the exhibition. Artists receive 70% of sales proceeds, with 30% divided between Fairhaven Memorial Park and LCAD. For questions, contact Tracy Otto ([email protected]) or Regina Jacobson ([email protected]).
