About This Call
F'Air Words is F Magazine's statewide writing competition open to all poets and writers, whether published or not, residing anywhere in Alaska. Current F Magazine judges are not eligible, but content contributors and volunteers are. Previously published work in other contests, books, magazines, or F Magazine is accepted as long as it is original work created by the entrant. Double submissions and multiple entries are accepted, though only one submission per entry is allowed.
Submissions are accepted in four categories: Poetry (2 pages or less, or 86 lines/1,000 words maximum); Fiction (up to 5,000 words, including short/flash/science fiction, novel excerpts, and screenplays); Nonfiction (up to 3,000 words, including essays, stories, critique/analysis, diary/journal entries, and autobiographies); and Novel Excerpts (up to 5,000 words with an optional 200-word brief). All submissions must be made by copying and pasting into the entry box. Do not include your name on your writing submission. The entry fee is $7 per entry.
First place winners will be published in the summer issue of F Magazine. First, second, and third place winners in all categories will receive award certificates and mentions in print and online. A reading of the top winning works will be scheduled for mid-summer at Out North Contemporary Art House and aired on KONR 106.1 FM, Anchorage. Winners will be announced June 1, 2012. All works are judged anonymously on originality, creativity, characterization, and artistic quality. All poems and stories remain the property of the artist.
