About This Call
Facing Forward is an exhibition for handmade prints using traditional printmaking and/or photographic processes created in the last 3 years by self-identified women of color. International artists are eligible.
Submission Requirements: All entries must be handmade prints using traditional printmaking and/or photographic processes. 3D and experimental work is encouraged. Any combination of processes may be employed including but not limited to silkscreen, letterpress, calligraphy, etching, woodcut, lithography, linocut, drypoint, mezzotint, monoprint, polymer plates, silver gelatin prints, photopolymer gravure, copperplate gravure, cyanotype, vandyke, gumbichromate, palladium, platinum, carbon, salt, wet plate, chemigram, lumen, argrotype, oilprint, and chlorophyll. Digital photographic images can be used in combination with other processes, but straight digital prints will not be accepted. Work needs to arrive at the gallery ready to hang but framing is not required. Magnets, clips, and other methods can be used. Artists may enter up to 5 artworks. Entry fee is sliding scale ($5-$25).
Juror: Satpreet Kahlon, a Punjabi-born artist, curator, and educator based in Seattle, WA. Awards: First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100. Important dates: September 13th midnight Mountain time is the submission deadline. September 20th is notification of acceptance via email. October 6th is when work is due at Light Art Space. October 10th is opening day with an all-day reception from 10am–5pm. All artwork will remain in the exhibition through January 2nd, 2021. Sales are encouraged but artwork need not be for sale. Light Art Space will retain a 40% commission on any artwork sold.
