About This Call

Site:Brooklyn is calling for portraits and self-portraits across all mediums, genres, and artistic practices for an online exhibition running November 3–December 1, 2021. Portraits, of the self and others, have always been more than a simple record of a figure or face. Court portraiture's aim was to flatter, to elevate and transcend, always caught in the relationship between power and beauty. As photography became the medium for traditional portrait-making, the social and stylistic scope for portraiture and self-portraiture expanded in all mediums, from painting and sculpture, to video and photography, and beyond.

This is a juried exhibition open to all artists 18 years of age or older working in all media. Entry fee is $25.00 for up to three images, with $10 for each additional image. Submissions may include up to 8 images and 3 videos, with a minimum of 3 total samples required. The submission deadline is September 27, 2021 at 11:59 PM MT. Notification of acceptance will be sent October 5, 2021. Once accepted, artists must upload high-resolution photo files of their work.

All artwork must be priced for sale and available for sale during the exhibition. Artists cannot withdraw work before the end of the exhibit. Artists will retain a 60% commission on all exhibition sales. Only original works may be submitted. All entry fees are non-refundable. The exhibition is juried by Julia Fiore, an art historian, writer, and editor based in Brooklyn.
