Extreme Fibers: Textile Icons and the New Edge

Extreme Fibers: Textile Icons and the New Edge is organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art and guest curator Geary Jones.

Eligibility: All artists 18 years or older may enter. Each artist may submit up to 2 works in any textile or fiber-based medium, or artworks that incorporate textile materials or techniques (woven, knitted, or crocheted metal, woven bamboo, handmade paper, wearables, beads, embroidery, etc.). Artists may submit up to 3 images for each entry. Only original works are eligible. Two-dimensional pieces may not exceed 6 feet (1.8m) wide by 10 feet (3m) high. Three-dimensional pieces may not exceed 8 feet (2.5m) high by 4 feet (1.2m) by 4 feet (1.2m). All artwork must weigh less than 100 lbs. (45 kg). Only work easily handled by two people will be accepted. Jurying is by object, not artist; only send images of specific artwork(s) you wish to have considered and that will be available for exhibition during the entire run of the show. Substitutions will not be accepted.

Submission: All entries must be submitted through the CaFe website at www.callforentry.org. Images must be uploaded in JPEG format only, 72 dpi, no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest dimension, 3 MB max size. Include title, media, date, dimensions, and any special instructions for installation. Entry fee is $50.00 per artist (non-refundable). Deadline for entries is November 14, 2014. Artist notification begins January 30, 2015. Accepted artworks should be shipped prepaid to: Art Martin, Muskegon Museum of Art, 296 W Webster Ave. Muskegon, MI 49440. All artwork should arrive by July 31, 2015. The MMA will pay for return shipping using FedEx Ground for U.S. domestic shipment and FedEx for international shipment.

Accepted work is eligible for sale through the MMA Store with a 40% MMA commission. An illustrated publication will accompany the exhibition as the budget allows. The MMA assumes the privilege of photographing or using any work entered in the exhibition for the purpose of publicity or education, unless the artist notifies the MMA in writing to the contrary.
