Extra Glossy at NYCJW

The exhibition will feature contemporary art jewelry inspired by images and messages presented in fashion magazines, known as 'glossies.' Glossies serve as vital communication tools in the fashion industry, conveying designers' visions and forecasting trends in beauty, color, texture, pattern, and form. Editorials address celebrity, art, films, literature, social issues, and current events. The objective is to bring attention, curiosity, playfulness, and discussion to art jewelry at the Plumb Club Experience, providing an educational experience for attendees.

Artists selected will create 3 pieces of jewelry, including a brooch, interpreting subject matter from fashion glossies such as beauty, runway, fashion, design, celebrity, and social issues. Entry fee is $45 USD (non-refundable). Submissions are due by February 14, 2019. Notifications of acceptance will be emailed no later than February 28, 2019. Work must be received by April 5, 2019. Selected artists must submit digital versions of work images in TIFF format, a signed consignment sheet, an inventory sheet with piece details and retail price, a brief artist statement about the jewelry, and a quality artist photo. Artists must also answer interview questions regarding background, inspiration, and creative process by April 5, 2019.

The exhibition opens at JCK Las Vegas in the Plumb Club Pavilion from May 31 – June 3, 2019, and will tour throughout the United States, including Ombré Gallery from June 21 – August 23, 2019. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insuring costs. Work should be shipped to: Jenna Shaifer, Ombré Gallery, 1511 Race Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202. International artists are eligible.
