About This Call
Salt Lake County is seeking an artist or artist team to create one or more unique exterior artworks for the new Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Arts Center in Daybreak, South Jordan, Utah. The project budget is $300,000.
The artwork must harmonize with the building's architecture and landscape design while meeting all safety guidelines for durability and maintenance in a public setting. The work should be appropriately scaled to the site and reflect high artistic quality and craftsmanship. Artists are encouraged to address the venue's distinctive identity, create a bold artistic statement, and incorporate dynamic lighting integration that reflects the building's design as a luminous lantern. The artwork should support the venue's mission of creating a welcoming environment and sense of belonging for all.
The selection process occurs in two phases. Phase One requires submission of a letter of interest, up to 10 images of relevant past work, and a detailed biography. Up to five semi-finalists will be selected to advance. Phase Two requires semi-finalists to attend a mandatory virtual meeting on August 15th, 2025 at 12:00 PM MT, followed by submission of a full site-specific proposal by 1:00 PM MT on September 24th, 2025. Semi-finalists will also present their proposals in person in Salt Lake City. The Selection Committee, composed of community members, Salt Lake County Arts & Culture representatives, architects, and arts professionals, will make the final recommendation to the Salt Lake County Mayor. This project is open to artists legally authorized to work in the United States.
