Exploring the Dark

R Gallery, a fine art gallery in downtown Boulder, Colorado, is seeking submissions from Colorado artists for an upcoming exhibition titled "Exploring the Dark." This exhibition calls upon artists to explore the myriad interpretations of darkness, which may be interpreted as the absence of light, the depths of the human psyche, societal undercurrents, or the mysteries of the natural world. The exhibition celebrates the contrast between light and shadow, inviting artists to convey the beauty, complexity, and transformative power that darkness holds.

The gallery welcomes all Colorado artists working in any medium, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and mixed-media. Artists may submit up to 12 pieces, though typically only one piece per artist will be selected for the exhibition. Work samples should be submitted as 1-8 images. The submission deadline is September 17, 2023 at midnight. Entry fee is $30.00 plus a $5.00 media fee. Pieces should be less than 36" wide including frame or case, with limited spots available for pieces up to 48" wide. Selected artists will be notified by September 22 and invited to attend the opening reception.

The exhibition runs from October 11 through November 26, 2023 at R Gallery. Accepted works must arrive by October 8. All selected artists must grant R Gallery exclusive right to sell the selected piece(s) for 6 months from the start of the exhibit. R Gallery charges a 50% commission on all sales unless otherwise agreed upon. All pieces must remain up for the duration of the exhibition and must be for sale.
