About This Call
The City and County of Honolulu Commission on Culture and the Arts is commissioning a work of art for the 'Ewa Mahiko District Park Gymnasium (91-1205 Renton Rd, 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i, 96706). The gymnasium, built in 2013, is a multi-purpose indoor facility covering approximately 10,000 square feet with a full-sized basketball court. The park covers 12.5 acres and is located on Renton Road between Alāiki Street and Park Row. The Commission suggests that the artwork theme relate to the history of surrounding areas, including the O'ahu Railway and Land Company (OR&L) Railroad System, Kapapapuhi Shoreline Park, 'Ewa Honouliuli Internment Camp, and 'Ewa Sugar Mill.
The awarded budget for this project is $180,000.00, all-inclusive, covering artist's fees, travel, fabrication, installation, documentation, signage, taxes, and insurance. The artwork must be of outdoor durable material, permanently installed, and require no electrical or water service. All artists able to qualify to work for the City and County of Honolulu are eligible to apply.
