Everything Blue

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels to submit original artwork exploring the color blue. This is a national call for entries. Blue has been regarded with reverence since ancient times, with meanings ranging from freedom and imagination to coldness, loneliness, and sadness. Artists are invited to interpret how they utilize blue in their work—whether it permeates the entire image, appears in small sections, or serves as a defining or structural device. No restrictions on subject matter or style exist; all approaches, traditional and non-traditional, are welcome.

Accepted mediums include painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography. The entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to a maximum of 9 images. All images must be submitted as JPEG files under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artwork must be professionally finished and ready for secure installation with stretched wire attached to the back. Paintings should be framed or gallery wrapped; photographs should be framed if a traditional presentation is desired. Artwork must not exceed 48 inches on the longest side (framed) and must not weigh more than 50 lbs; sculpture must not exceed 18 inches on any dimension.

Notification of acceptance will be sent on or about April 5, 2024. Accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery no later than April 29, 2024. The exhibition runs May 3-30, 2024. An "Art of Distinction" Award will be granted to one artist, who will be featured in a special exhibit. Additionally, one artist accepted and displayed in an MVA Gallery exhibit during the past calendar year will be selected for an exhibition opportunity in New York City. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs. The gallery will return unsold artwork June 4-8, 2024. For sales, artists receive 70% of the final sale price; the gallery retains 30%.
