About This Call
The Office of Arts & Culture in collaboration with the City of Seattle's Ethnic Heritage Gallery Board (EHAG) is forming a roster of artists of color for exhibitions in the Ethnic Heritage Gallery in the Seattle Municipal Tower. This roster will provide the EHAG board with a list of vetted artists of color eligible to show their work during the 2014/2015 calendar. The call is open to established and emerging artists residing in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, or Washington State. Artists may be chosen to show individually or with others. To be selected, applicants must demonstrate the ability to stage an exhibition of their artwork that supports EHAG's mission and goals.
The Ethnic Heritage Art Gallery's mission is to increase the visibility and appreciation of ethnic cultural heritage through artistic expression. ARTS supports the City of Seattle's Race and Social Justice Initiative by creating dialogue about race, culture, gender and equity through diverse exhibitions by regional artists of color.
Eligibility: Open to established and emerging artists living in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington State. Graduate students may apply depending on ability to present work professionally. Applicants must be over 18 years of age, have previous art exhibition experience in a public location, and be interested in showing artwork in a public setting. The roster will be a juried listing of pre-qualified artists who may be selected to display 2D artworks in solo or group exhibitions. Application requirements include résumé, exhibition proposal, artist statement, minimum of five images and up to 16 images, and an image identification list (not to exceed 500 characters per image). Selection criteria include strength and artistic merit of past artworks, creativity of approach towards addressing EHAG's mission and goals, experience with previous art exhibitions, and ability to meet deadlines. There is no budget available for framing and transportation of artwork. ARTS will provide professional installation and de-installation, and the EHAG board will provide flyers, art cards, and refreshments for an artist reception. Applicants will be notified by email by August 7, 2014. Contact Deborah Paine at (206) 684-7132 or [email protected], or Elisheba Johnson at (206) 684-0182 or [email protected].
