About This Call
Estudio Corazón is an artist residency program within Ghost Ranch, an Education & Retreat Center in Abiquiu, NM. The mission is to nurture creatives of all sorts in their artistic pursuits by fostering a healthy experience that lays aside judgment, prejudice, and expectations. There is no requirement to do anything at the residency because the experience alone has the potential to make significant impacts on residents and expand their creativity.
Seven artists at a time are housed in individual casitas, each with a separate bedroom and studio. The living space includes a queen bed, writing desk and chair, lounge chair, dresser, and clothes hanging space. The studio is equipped with a 4' x 8' work table, 8' x 4' vertical work board, H-Frame wood easel, display shelves, stool, fan, folding camp chair, and small refrigerator. All residents share a large bathhouse. Residents enjoy three meals per day in the dining hall, which can accommodate gluten-free and vegetarian diets. Accommodations are functional but not luxurious, with no air-conditioning. The grounds are rugged with rutted, uneven, and unpaved areas. Residencies are 2 or 4 weeks and accept a variety of mediums. Access to specialized Ghost Ranch equipment like kilns and jewelry labs is not available. There is no WiFi at the casitas, though communication spots exist elsewhere on the ranch.
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Residents are responsible for transportation, materials, and personal expenses. Entry fee is $25.00. Submit 3-10 images of work samples. For best consideration, apply by these jury dates: May (April 5), June (April 26), August (June 28), September (June 28), October (July 26). Ghost Ranch is an active ranch with a diverse community of visitors and wildlife including snakes, reptiles, rodents, insects, and occasional mountain lions.
