About This Call
Rutgers University is soliciting Expressions of Interest from prospective artists to design, fabricate, and install artwork for the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy building expansion at Rutgers University's Busch Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey. This public art opportunity is part of the New Jersey Arts Inclusion Program, coordinated by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and Rutgers University Planning, Design and Development. The call is open only to artists living in NJ, NY, PA, DE, MD, and DC.
The artwork will be located in the Main Entry Plaza exterior, with materials that must be durable, continue to drain water away from the building, and coordinate with the material palette of the building and exterior plaza. Sustainable materials requiring minimal maintenance and appropriate for a public setting are required. The design team recommends thematic material related to healing or the changing nature of pharmacy and the profession of pharmacists as conceptual guidance, allowing artists creative license. The proposed budget for the artwork is $75,000.00, covering all costs including design, fabrication, transportation, installation, and engineering services.
Submissions should include a letter summarizing interest and experience in public art creation, a list of at least 3 references for similar projects, resume, and 4-6 photographs/images of examples of public art installations. Three artists will be selected to prepare project-specific presentations on the Busch Campus. Each finalist will receive a $500.00 stipend to cover presentation preparation and travel expenses. The project completion date is June 2, 2017.
