About This Call
Rutgers University is soliciting Expressions of Interest from prospective artists to design, fabricate and install artwork for the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy building expansion at Rutgers University's Busch Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey. This opportunity is only open to artists living in NJ, NY, PA, DE, MD and DC. The proposed artwork is part of the New Jersey Arts Inclusion Program, which requires that up to 1.5% of state financed construction budgets be set aside for the inclusion of publicly accessible art.
The artwork will be located in Lobby 120 as a ceiling-mounted sculpture extending below a skylight on the second floor. The sculpture should not significantly reduce the amount of light from the skylight area. Materials selected shall be sustainable and require minimal maintenance, and should be appropriate for a public setting. Thematic material related to healing or the changing nature of pharmacy and the profession of pharmacists is recommended, though artists are encouraged to exercise creative license within this broad conceptual guidance. The proposed budget for the artwork is $150,000.00, covering all costs including design, fabrication, transportation, and installation.
Three artists will be selected from submissions to prepare project-specific proposals. Submissions should include a letter summarizing interest and experience in public art creation, a list of at least 3 references for similar projects, resume, and 4-6 photographs/images of examples of public art installations. Finalists will receive a $1,000.00 stipend to cover presentation preparation and travel expenses. The entry deadline is August 26, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Finalist presentations are scheduled for October 24-28, 2016, with project completion anticipated by June 2, 2017.
