About This Call
The Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) invites applications for a Funded Artist Residency, a three-week immersive program designed for artists whose practice engages with the subject of the environment, climate issues, and the natural world. This residency supports creative inquiry into the unique ecological landscape of Nantucket—a coastal island facing rapid environmental change including erosion, rising seas, and shifting habitats. Selected artists will live and work on Nantucket for three weeks, create new work informed by the island's environment, engage with the community, and contribute to public dialogue around climate and environmental stewardship.
The selected artist will receive three weeks of housing in the Kaaren and Charles Hale Apartment for Artists in Residence at AAN's Visual Arts Center on Amelia Drive, a private studio space at the VAC, an artist stipend of $3,000, travel expenses of $500, and an exhibition in AAN's Champion Gallery at the VAC. Residency dates are April 6-25, 2026. There is no application fee.
Eligibility: Open to emerging and established artists in all mediums (visual art, installation, mixed-media, performance, interdisciplinary, environmental art, etc.). Applicants must be 18 or older and available for the residency dates. Open to U.S. artists only. Application deadline: February 1, 2026.
