Englewood Median Art Call - Hampden Avenue Median(s)

The Cultural Arts Commission of Englewood and the City of Englewood invite local artists to apply for the Englewood Median Art Call - Hampden Avenue Median(s), a 2022-2023 public art project. This opportunity is for small-medium size art, both new or existing pieces, and is the first of a series of median art calls. The selected artwork will be installed at the median on Hampden and Huron Street, featuring a large-format piece (no more than 7' tall by 4' wide). The project welcomes a variety of artforms including sculptural, 2-dimensional works, and kinetic artwork. Artists are encouraged to create work that generates a sense of place and celebrates the diversity and quirkiness of the surrounding community. Materials must be appropriate for exterior installation and four-season weather conditions of Colorado.

The artwork budget is $30,000. Artists are responsible for all associated expenses related to design, fabrication, installation, and transportation of completed artwork. The selected artist will be required to include insurance coverage as required by the City and will work with the City of Englewood's Public Works Department for installation and acquiring necessary permits. The Selection Committee will consider submittals that include artwork for Median 1 alone, or Median 1 and 2, or all three medians (Median 1 at Hampden and Huron, Median 2 at Hampden and Delaware, and Median 3 at Hampden and Bannock), as long as the submittal meets the $30,000 budget.

Artists may submit up to three applications. Submissions may include completed work, work in progress, or future work. Submittals must include an artist introduction/bio, professional resume (optional), and for completed work: a written narrative describing material components, dimensions, and installation method; a minimum of three high-quality digital images; and a digital rendering in the proposed site. For work in progress or new work: a written narrative, a maquette, and a digital rendering. This project is open to any individual or team of artists. Preference will be considered for applicants who live in Englewood, although all are encouraged to apply.
