About This Call

The City of Englewood's Cultural Arts Commission invites artists or teams of artists living in Colorado to apply for the 2024 Englewood Hampden/Delaware Median Art Call. This opportunity is for a permanent small-medium size art piece, both new or existing. The piece will be installed at the median on Hampden/Delaware Street (400 W. Hampden Avenue and S Delaware St., coordinates 39.653256, -104.992331). This is the third in a median art series on Hampden Avenue, following previous commissions including Virere by Lawrence Argent at the Yale & Broadway median.

The artwork must be a medium-large format piece no more than 7 feet tall by 3 feet wide. The project welcomes a variety of artforms, including sculptural and two-dimensional works, as well as kinetic artwork. Materials must be appropriate for exterior installation and four-season Colorado weather conditions. Design features must meet Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) guidelines and include a PE stamp from a licensed professional engineer demonstrating structural stability to withstand necessary wind loads in accordance with current AASHTO design standards. The artwork budget is $20,000; submissions over this amount will not be considered.

Artists may submit up to five applications. Submissions may include completed work, work in progress, or future work. Applications must include artist bio/introduction, proposed piece description with materials and dimensions, a minimum of three high-quality digital images, and a digital rendering of the work in the proposed site. For work in progress or new work, a maquette and digital rendering are required. The selection committee will judge submissions on visual impact, interpretation and creativity, craftsmanship, and timelessness. Preference will be given to applicants living in Englewood, though all Colorado residents are encouraged to apply. The selected artist is responsible for all associated expenses including design, fabrication, installation, transportation, PE stamp approval, and required insurance coverage.
