About This Call
OFF THE GRID
This exhibition explores alternative ways of engaging the grid, challenging its discursive and conceptual confines and liberating its structural coordinates through form, color, tone and concept. The exhibition seeks artists who conceptually promote ways to resist the grid, offering possibilities to live off the grid. Works can be any 2D, 3D or time-based mediums including but not limited to: works on paper, prints, books, photography, paintings, sculptures, video and installation. There are no size restrictions.
The guest juror and curator is Susette Min, Associate Professor in Asian American Studies at UC Davis and former Curator of Contemporary Art at The Drawing Center in NYC. Exhibition dates are June 13 – July 18, 2015. Entry fee is $25 for up to 3 works. The fee is waived for Sacramento Area artists (Yolo, Sacramento, Placer and El Dorado Counties) with coupon code "Free Grid". Up to 3 work samples may be submitted (images, audio, or video). Selections will be announced via email on May 25. Works must be delivered to the gallery by June 6. The opening reception is June 13, 6-9pm. The gallery will retain 40% commission of the retail price on any works that are sold. Works not for sale should be noted "NFS". Work will be insured at the gallery but not in transit. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. All work should be properly prepared for installation.
