Emptiness - 2021

This art competition invites artists to submit work interpreting the theme "Emptiness." The subject has multiple meanings across cultures—from Buddhist philosophy describing "the true nature of things and events" to Western perspectives often viewing it negatively. The competition encourages artists to explore how emptiness relates to personal experience, whether through loss, isolation, or states of stillness and self-discovery.

Accepted media includes painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, and mixed media in all styles. Artists may submit up to 5 original artworks, with a maximum of 3 pieces selected per artist for exhibition. Artworks created within the last 5 years are preferred, though there is no creation year limit. There is no size limit. Artworks must be entirely original work owned by the artist with all rights for promotion, publishing, and sales. Entries must not be copies or derivatives of copyrighted works. Artworks containing pornography, violence, racial or religious hatred, or offensive content are not admissible.

Selected artworks will be featured in an online group exhibition running September 1-30, 2021. Benefits include promotion for artwork sales, public choice cash prizes of USD 100 each for 3 artists with highest artwork ranks, publication in an online exhibition catalogue, digital promotional badges, artwork reviews from visitors, exhibition analytics reports, and a digital certificate. Some selected artworks may be published in magazines and books within the Biafarin art network. Entry fee is USD 30 for 1-3 artworks and USD 5 for each additional artwork up to 5. All fees are non-refundable. The competition is open to all artists worldwide.
