Empowerment vs. Exploitation

The Cultural Center of Cape Cod invites artists worldwide to submit work for "Empowerment vs. Exploitation," an exhibition running February 7 - March 26, 2022. As a woman-led organization, the Center seeks to present work fostering conversation about gender-based issues including discrimination, media objectification, sexual exploitation, and intimate partner violence. The call welcomes original 2D or 3D artwork, written word, lighting, sound, and film that challenges societal views and addresses these subject matters in thought-provoking ways.

Eligibility is open to amateur and professional artists worldwide. Work must have been produced within the last five years. All styles and aesthetics are considered, though content should be appropriate for all viewers. Artists may submit up to 20 works. Entry fees are $25 for Cultural Center members or $30 for non-members, with an additional $5 fee per entry beyond the first. The Juror's Choice award is $1,000 cash. Images must be submitted in JPEG format, 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, with a maximum file size of 5 MB.

The Center has six galleries with spaces that can accommodate complete transformation with lighting and sound and large sculptural pieces. Proposals for programmatic content are also invited. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. Works must arrive by February 5 and no sooner than January 31. The Center charges a 30% commission on sales for members and 40% for non-members. Artists should insure their own work, as the Center's insurance does not cover damage during shipping and transit.
