About This Call
Gallery 110's Emerging Artist Program, founded in 2018, provides visual artists exhibition opportunities, subsidized gallery membership, and resources to support their art careers. This year's EmergEAST call seeks emerging visual artists who live in Eastern Washington (in the following 20 counties: Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Franklin, Ferry, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Spokane, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima) without significant solo exhibitions and/or gallery representation. The program aims to support artists from predominantly rural regions in Eastern Washington who lack access to opportunities available in metro areas.
The program offers three potential opportunities: 15 semi-finalists will be selected for a group exhibition at Heritage University in Toppenish, WA (March 2023); 10 finalists will be jury selected from the Heritage University exhibition to participate in a group exhibition at Gallery 110 in Pioneer Square, Seattle (June 1 – July 1, 2023); and up to 2 artists will be selected from the Gallery 110 exhibition to receive an Emerging Artist Membership Award. The award includes a 2-year fully paid Gallery 110 membership, gallery representation (physical and virtual), a solo exhibition within 24 months, additional exhibition opportunities, mentoring with gallery artists, and participation in gallery operations and decision-making.
Eligibility requirements: 2D and 3D visual artists, minimum 18 years old, residents of the specified Eastern Washington counties, no prior solo exhibitions in commercial or public galleries (except student exhibitions), ability to communicate serious long-term art goals and travel to Seattle for exhibition opportunity. Entry fee is $25 (waivable upon request). Applicants must submit a biography (150 words or less), artist statement (350 words or less), 3-6 work samples with descriptions (including title, materials, dimensions, year completed, and 1-2 sentence description). Those interested in the membership award must include a personal declaration of need (100 words or less). Submission deadline: January 12, 2023. Notification of semi-finalists: February 7, 2023. Studio visits or portfolio reviews: January 25 – February 10, 2023. Notification of finalists: May 25, 2023.
