About This Call

EMERGE is the fourth annual intercollegiate, juried exhibition organized by students for students. The Art Student Union at Georgia State University and the Diverge Art Club at Spelman College present this multimedia exhibition showcasing works by current undergraduate and graduate students from eight Atlanta-area colleges and universities: Georgia State University, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Kennesaw State University, Agnes Scott, the University of West Georgia, and the University of Georgia. This year's jurors are Brian Seay, Director of Blue Mark Studios, and Anne Weems, GSU art history alumna and gallery manager at Hathaway Gallery.

Eligible participants are limited to current undergraduate and graduate students from the eight participating institutions. All work must be original. All media will be considered including two or three-dimensional works, video, audio, installation, and performance. Each artist may submit up to three individual works for consideration, with a total of only three media attachments. For audio and video entries, include a link to the piece online rather than a file. Images must be submitted in JPEG format and labeled with the artist's last name followed by the entry number (e.g., jones1.jpg). Detail images must include the word DETAIL in the file name. Images should not contain borders or text that is not part of the original work.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance on Thursday, March 30. Accepted work must be delivered on Monday, April 3 or Tuesday, April 4 from 12-3 p.m. at Blue Mark Studios and must arrive ready to install. All works on paper require framing with wired hanging hardware. Canvases must have hanging hardware installed on the back, and sculptures/installations must arrive with necessary installation hardware and instructions. The exhibition will be on view at Blue Mark Studios from Thursday, April 6 to Thursday, April 13, with an opening reception on April 6. Best in Show and placement prizes will be announced on opening night, provided by sponsor Blick Art Supplies. Entry fee is $5.00.
