Emerge 2018

Emerge 2018 is a juried kiln-glass exhibition for emerging and intermediate-level artists, running June 23 through September 30 at Bullseye Projects in Portland's Pearl District. This biennial exhibition, sponsored by Bullseye Glass Company, recognizes students and early-career artists working in kilnformed studio glass who are not yet represented by major commercial galleries. Selected finalists will be included in Emerge/Evolve 2018, a national touring exhibition.

The competition offers $22,000 in prizes administered as Bullseye gift cards or credit, recognition at an awards ceremony, and representation in a full-color exhibition catalog. Award categories include Gold ($5,000), Silver ($2,500), and Bronze ($1,000) awards, plus a Crossover Award ($5,000) for artists established in another medium who started working in kiln-glass after January 1, 2016. Academic awards are also available for students enrolled in accredited university-level art programs during 2016-2017 or 2017-2018.

Eligibility: Artists must have started working in kiln-glass less than 15 years ago (including studies) and be in the early to intermediate stage of their career. Work in glass must not have been represented by a commercial gallery at a major international art or design fair at the time of application. Emerging artists should not have exhibited kiln-glass work in a museum, except in prior Emerge exhibitions or in college/university-affiliated institutions. Bullseye employees and artists whose work has been exhibited at Bullseye gallery locations are not eligible. All artwork must be created since January 1, 2016, use Bullseye glass, and weigh no more than 90 pounds. Kilnformed glass must be the focus of each work, though mixed-media and works incorporating additional glass techniques are accepted.

Application fee is $35.00 (student fee $25.00). Applicants may submit up to 6 images plus one video representing 1-6 separate works, along with a biographical profile and artist statement (500 characters or less each). Entry deadline: February 23, 2018 at 6:00 pm MST. Finalist notification: March 28, 2018. Awards ceremony: June 23, 2018.
