About This Call
Emerge 2016 is the ninth juried kiln-glass exhibition for emerging artists sponsored by Bullseye Glass Company. Hosted at Bullseye Gallery, the exhibition runs from June 25 through October 1, 2016, in Portland, Oregon, and recognizes students and early-career artists working in kilnformed studio glass who are not yet represented by major commercial galleries. Selected finalists will be included in Emerge/Evolve 2016, a national tour culminating in an exhibition at the Bellevue Arts Museum.
The competition is open to emerging artists working with Bullseye glass in kilnforming or kilncasting methods. Emerging artists are defined as those in the early to intermediate stage of their career whose work in glass has not been represented by a commercial gallery at a major international art or design fair. Artwork must have been created since January 1, 2014, and must weigh no more than 90 pounds. All art glass used must be Bullseye glass, with kilnformed glass as the focus of each work. Mixed-media work is accepted as long as kiln-glass is the primary component.
The competition offers over $22,000 in prizes administered as Bullseye Glass gift cards or credit, including Gold Award ($5,000), Silver Award ($2,500), and Bronze Award ($1,000). A Crossover Award ($5,000) is available for artists established in another medium who started working in kiln-glass since January 1, 2014. Academic awards are available for students enrolled in accredited university-level art programs during the 2014-2015 or 2015-2016 academic years. Winners receive recognition at an awards ceremony and representation in a full-color exhibition catalog. Entry fee is $35.00 (student fee $25.00). Submissions must include 1-6 images plus up to one video, a biographical profile (500 characters or less), and an artist statement (500 characters or less). Finalist notification is scheduled for March 31, 2016.
