Embrace: Expect the Unexpected - SDA's 2024 Exhibition in Print

Embrace: Expect the Unexpected is SDA's 2024 International Exhibition in Print, celebrating artists who accept the challenge of embracing unexpected outcomes or changes, whether in the creative process or in one's own life. The exhibition seeks works addressing themes such as embracing one's true and multifaceted identity, the act of embrace itself, and the boldness required to take risks. Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply.

The exhibition will be featured in a comprehensive print and digital edition of the Fall 2024 Surface Design Journal, co-juried by textile artist Youngmin Lee and Surface Design Journal Managing Editor Lauren Sinner. Selected work will include full and detailed images, artist statements, and juror reflections. Artists whose work is selected will receive one complimentary print copy of the journal. Seven award winners will each receive an expanded 3-page spread.

Eligibility: Open to all artists internationally. Artists may enter up to three artworks (2D, 3D, or documentation of time-based media, performance, or conceptual work). Work must have been completed since January 1, 2022, and work executed under classroom/educational guidance is not eligible. Entry fees: $30 for SDA members, $45 for non-members. Students can use coupon code STUDENT24 for $10 off respective entry fees. Work samples: 2-6 images required (JPEG format, 1200 pixels minimum on longest side, 72 ppi, 5 MB maximum). Selected artists must provide print quality images at 300 dpi, 6x8" minimum. Artist notification of acceptance: July 8, 2024.
