About This Call
The City of St. Petersburg, in conjunction with the EDGE District, seeks to commission artist(s) or artist team(s) to design, engineer, construct and install EDGE District Gateway Markers to identify the EDGE District. The project is for multiple gateway markers utilizing one design: two markers of larger scale and six to eight of smaller scale. The two larger markers will be located at the northwest corner of Central Ave. & MLK St., and the southeast corner of Central Ave. & 16th St. in St. Petersburg, FL. Smaller markers will be placed on 1st Avenues North and South at major intersections bordering the EDGE District. The marker design must incorporate the EDGE District's logo.
The total project budget is $249,000, inclusive of all costs for the final installed artwork including artist design and engineering fees, permit fees, fabrication, shipping, installation, travel, hotel, transportation, mileage, and insurance. All artists selected as finalists to prepare and present a proposal will receive a flat fee of $1,500 to cover expenses such as travel, hotel, transportation, and mileage.
This RFQ is open to all professional artists who are United States residents with experience creating public art in active, urban settings. Submission deadline is September 22, 2017. Finalists will be selected and notified by October 25, 2017, with proposals due January 15, 2018. Finalists' presentations are scheduled for late January 2018, and the winning artist will be selected in February 2018. Submissions require six images of at least three different completed artworks, a letter of interest with statement of thematic concept and planned medium, and a resume with professional references.
