About This Call
The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department Public Art Program seeks to commission a professional artist or artist team to design, fabricate, and install site-specific artwork at the Eastside Regional Neighborhood Water Park, located at 13501 Jason Crandall Dr. in Far East El Paso. Materials must be appropriate for a high-use environment, weather resistant, and low maintenance. The Neighborhood Water Park will feature a family pool, toddler pool, lazy river, water slides, artificial wave surfing feature, climbing walls, food concessions, shaded areas, changing rooms, rental cabanas, and nighttime programming. The park will be developed within a "Hueco Tanks" theme.
This is an open competition with a total project budget of $150,000 to include design, fabrication, and installation. The budget is all-inclusive and must cover design fees, travel expenses, all materials and fabrication costs, insurance costs, engineering expenses, shipping and transportation to the site, and installation costs. Artists must submit an artist statement, previous work examples, resume, and letter of interest via the CAFÉ Website. Work sample requirements include a minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 images, with up to 5 audio files and 5 video files permitted.
The selected artist will collaborate with the City and stakeholders to generate artwork proposals, conduct site research, prepare presentations, and provide construction documents. The Artist Selection Panel will review all complete, eligible applications received by the deadline. A finalist will be selected and presented to the Public Art Committee for approval. The anticipated schedule includes Artist Selection Panel Review on October 2, Public Art Committee Review on October 9, and notification to the selected artist on October 10. Eligibility is open to national applicants.
