About This Call
The Park division of the City of Greeley is seeking an artist to serve as an artwork design consultant for the East Memorial neighborhood redevelopment project. Over the past year, the Park division worked with residents of this densely populated community of approximately 7,200 to identify improvements they would like to see in their neighborhood. A three-year grant has been awarded to develop a network of outdoor spaces that will increase physical activity among children and families. Public art will be integrated into this project to create public spaces that promote the neighborhood's health, happiness, and wellbeing.
Three parks are being redeveloped, with an additional natural area to be developed over the next three years. The community will be involved in deciding what is appropriate in each park. Site-specific structures, art forms, and sculptures that contribute to place making will change both the aesthetics and social dynamics of the public spaces. For the natural area, environmental art or land art may be appropriate, including works created in nature using natural materials such as soil, rock, boulders, stone, logs, branches, and leaves, with or without introduced materials such as concrete, metal, asphalt, or mineral pigments.
The budget for the artist design consultant position in 2019 is $50,000. The selected artist must be willing to participate in one or two meetings each month in Greeley with the design team. The artist will develop 3 or 4 artwork designs in collaboration with the hired Architecture and Engineering firm. Final designs must be original and include all details necessary for fabrication and installation, including engineering plans. Designs for all appropriate outdoor mediums, including landscape architecture and earthworks, will be considered. The eventual disintegration of artwork is acceptable if it is a slow process, or works may be created with the intent of being permanent. Final designs must be completed by December 2019. Once designs are accepted by the Greeley Art Commission and payment is made, the City will retain all rights to the final designs. Park construction will follow from October 2020 through May 2021. Applicants must submit 6 images. Applications may be submitted online through Café or requested from [email protected] for email or hard copy submission.
