Earthy Abstractions

Earthy Abstractions is a juried competition presented by Ellington-White Contemporary Art Gallery and The Arts Council Fayetteville/Cumberland County. The exhibition runs March 27 – May 16, 2015, and features artists working with or incorporating natural materials such as soil, clay, wood, stone, and other elements into their visual practice. Non-objective works should have a direct connection in theme, texture, and materials with the natural world.

Eligibility is open to professional artists 18 years of age or older. All work must be original and completed within the last three years. Artists may submit a maximum of four original works that have not been previously exhibited in Cumberland County. 2D work must be between 12" x 12" and 72" x 84" including frame, properly framed, wired, and ready to hang. All works must be sturdy enough to withstand handling. Entry fee is $25 for non-members and $20 for EW/AC members. The competition offers $1,500 in cash awards, with a 30% commission on all sales.

Digital image submissions are accepted via CaFE (Call for Entry) from January 10 – March 7, 2015. Accepted works must arrive for installation between March 18-21, 2015. Jurors are Soni Martin, Professor of Art at Fayetteville State University, and Dwight Smith, Assistant Professor of Art. Acceptance notifications will be sent March 14, 2015.
