Earth's Reflection

Earth's Reflection is an international juried exhibition at The Art Effect's Trolley Barn Gallery (489 Main St., Poughkeepsie, New York) running June 14 - August 9, 2024. The exhibition recontextualizes the gallery's 3,000-square-foot space to focus on artistic interpretations of pollution prevention, including themes of environmental activism and urban revitalization. Artists exploring themes inspired by the Earth, ecology, geology, biology, regreening, native lands, and community stewardship are encouraged to apply.

The exhibition is open to all visual media including interdisciplinary, multimedia, installation, contemporary, crafts, video art, soundscapes/sound art, performance art, and design in 2D and 3D. Artists working with trash, sound, video, and/or performance are particularly encouraged to submit. Youth curators work with a nationally recognized guest curator to select artworks based on execution, innovation, and relevance to the curatorial narrative. Artists will be notified within approximately 2-3 weeks after the deadline about selection status. The exhibition will be open during Hudson Valley's Upstate Art Weekend (June 18-21) and will feature an Opening Reception on Friday, June 14, 6-8pm. Additional events include a Lecture and Community Clean Up (July 19), Family Friendly Art Workshop (July 20), and Panel Discussion (August 2).

Entry fee is $25 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image (up to 15 images maximum, including up to 3 video submissions). Discounted rates apply for Trolley Barn Gallery members, City of Poughkeepsie residents, and current students/staff of The Art Effect. Artwork must be exhibition ready with appropriate frames and hardware; maximum 10 feet in any direction recommended; 2D artwork should not exceed 60 pounds. Selected artwork will be displayed in the gallery and in an online virtual gallery. Exhibiting artists may specify a retail price or mark work as "Not for Sale." The Art Effect retains a 20% commission for members and current students, or 30% for non-members. Artists may enter recent works not previously exhibited with the Trolley Barn Gallery.
