Earth Matters: SDA 2021 Juried Member Exhibition

Members of the Surface Design Association (SDA) are invited to submit work for Earth Matters: Surface Design Association Juried Member Exhibition. The exhibition will be on view from September 3 through October 30, 2021 at the Watermark Art Center, Marley & Sandy Kaul Gallery, 505 Bemidji Avenue N, Bemidji, Minnesota 56601. The juror is Nnenna Okore. The exhibition includes awards.

The exhibition theme explores how ecological considerations are factored into the making of art, presenting an expanded perspective on issues relating to current ecological conditions shaped by human habits. All SDA members working in all media are encouraged to apply. Works chosen will demonstrate unique, well-developed artistic vision and innovation. Up to two artworks may be submitted per artist. 2D, 3D, and video works are eligible. Entries must be original work completed after January 1, 2019. Work executed under classroom or educational guidance is not eligible.

Entry fee: $40 for SDA members, $20 for SDA student-members. Entries are accepted online through CaFÉ from March 15, 2021 to June 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of acceptance will be sent July 20, 2021. Selected artwork must arrive at Watermark Art Center between mid-July and August 20, 2021. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the venue. Work is insured once in possession of Watermark Art Center at 50% of retail value. Awards include First Place ($500), Second Place ($300), Third Place ($150), and SDA Award of Excellence. A 50% gallery commission will be charged for sold work. Unsold work will be returned by November 20, 2021.
