Earth Day 2024 - Metro Art in Transit

Metro's Art in Transit program is inviting K-6 students from Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia to submit 2-D artworks that highlight and celebrate the significant role of public transportation in fostering a sustainable environment and healthy communities. The selected artworks will be featured on bus wraps as part of Metro's celebration of Earth Day (Monday, April 22, 2024).

Each applicant may enter one original 2-dimensional artwork in the following formats: drawing, print, collage, or painting. Artwork must measure 8.5" x 11" and be horizontally oriented. Participants must submit a high-quality photograph of the original artwork in JPEG or JPG format, showing only the artwork with no frames or extraneous backgrounds. Submitted artwork must be original and cannot have been previously exhibited. There is no entry fee.

An Art Selection Committee will select five artworks from each jurisdiction (Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia). Selected students' artworks will be displayed on three specially designed buses as part of the Earth Day celebration in April. Students whose artworks are selected will be asked to send their original pieces to the Metro office for high-resolution scanning; artworks will be returned to students with shipping instructions and a pre-paid shipping label provided. Parents and/or guardians of selected students must execute a written release authorizing WMATA to use the selected artwork and the student's name for promotional materials, including social media.
