About This Call
The City of Apache Junction is seeking an experienced public artist to create artwork for the Dutchman Dog Park, a 3.5-acre off-leash dog park opening in early 2022. The park will feature a ramada, three fenced areas for dogs, drinking fountains, and shaded benches. Artwork will activate the park and enhance the surrounding community. Artwork may consist of one or a series of sculptures that respond to the park and surrounding desert landscape. The artist will work with city staff and project architect to locate appropriate site(s) for artwork. Project budget is $60,000, all inclusive.
This commission is open to experienced public artists age 18 and older residing in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. The ideal candidate will have community interaction experience and the ability to create durable artwork located in a heavily traveled area. Artists must be registered on the city's vendor site before applying.
Submittals must include: letter of interest, resume, up to 10 images of past projects with accompanying image descriptions, and names of three professional references dating back five years. Applicants must also complete and upload an Application Checklist PDF. The application deadline is February 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. MST. Late submittals will not be accepted.
