Durham Arts Council: Annual Call for Artists 2017-2018

The Durham Arts Council (DAC) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) local arts agency committed to supporting local and regional arts organizations and artists working in all media. This annual call is for solo exhibition proposals. The DAC manages the historic Durham Arts Council building in downtown Durham, North Carolina, which contains 4 galleries, 2 theaters, rehearsal studios, classrooms, and meeting spaces. The building serves 350,000+ visitors annually.

Exhibits are programmed in the Allenton Gallery (approximately 42 running feet of hanging space, 11-foot ceilings) and Semans Gallery (approximately 78 running feet of hanging space, 11-foot ceilings), with exhibits generally running no longer than 8 weeks. Large-scale 2-D work may also be considered for the Durham Convention Center Pre-Function Corridor (296' long, 18' wide, 14' ceilings), where exhibits run for several months. Only 2-dimensional works that can be hung on gallery walls will be considered. Ninety percent (90%) of exhibited work must be for sale. The DAC will handle artwork sales and retains a 30% commission on sold works.

Submit 5-7 images formatted according to CaFE guidelines, an artist statement explaining the body of work and proposing an interactive activity to engage viewers, a resume including arts-related background, and an image identification list with image number, year executed, title, dimensions, and medium.
