About This Call
The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) invites artists to submit proposals for up to three (3) exterior public art sites associated with a $62 million renovation of the Dunkin' Donuts Center in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. This project is in accordance with the Rhode Island 1% Allocation for Art for Public Facilities Act.
Three exterior sites have been selected for public art installation: Site 1 is an exterior south plaza providing an open public space for pedestrians; Site 2 is the front exterior and primary entrance to the Dunkin' Donuts Center along Sabin Street, where artwork should have high impact, be cohesive, and require minimal maintenance; Site 3 involves artistic treatment of manhole covers, bike racks and benches with emphasis on creative, user-friendly solutions requiring minimal maintenance. Artists may submit proposals for one or multiple sites.
A total of $420,000 has been designated for the acquisition of exterior public art. All artists' fees, costs of fabrication, installation and transportation are included in this budget. Submissions must be made online through CAFE by September 13, 2006. Required materials include: current resume(s), a written proposal statement not exceeding 2,000 characters specifying the site and describing concept, materials, proposed budget and installation requirements, and six (6) digital images of relevant work completed within the past five years with accompanying media, dimensions, title, and brief description. Finalists will be selected based on quality and suitability of artwork, demonstrated ability to complete work on schedule and within budget, ability to meet ADA and safety standards, and permanence and durability of artwork with minimum maintenance requirements.
