About This Call
Dual is a survey of artists creating sculptures that both stand alone as beautiful objects and also interact with the body in some way. Art jewelry has long pushed the boundaries of body adornment through wearable sculpture and objects made for the body but not realistically wearable. As sculpture takes a prominent role in art jewelry and the focus shifts from body adornment to conceptual objects that may or may not directly relate to the body, the result is often art with a double life. Dual seeks to highlight individual works that exist successfully in both realms—as sculpture and as an object that relates to the body or can interact with the body. This theme is open to interpretation, and submissions are not limited to jewelry or small scale objects but open to any sculpture that lives a dual life.
The exhibit will take place in conjunction with the 2011 SNAG (Society of North America Goldsmiths) conference held in Seattle, Washington May 26-29, 2011. The exhibition runs April 7-May 29, 2011, with an opening reception on April 7, 2011 and a SNAG reception on May 27, 2011. The exhibit is juried by Catherine Grisez.
Eligibility is open to all artists 18 and older working in any media. The entry fee is $35. Artists must submit a minimum of 2 works and maximum of 4, with at least two images per piece—one of the sculpture and one of the alternate purpose/display. Drawings of unfinished or works in process are accepted as long as you show at least two finished works. All works must be accompanied by title, medium, size, date, and sale price. Work is due at the gallery by March 28, 2011. Notification of acceptance will be sent November 9, 2010.
