About This Call
Dreaming Zenzile is a juried national exhibition exploring themes of social action, the impact of music in civil rights, free speech, and themes found in the music of South African activist and musician Miriam Makeba. The exhibition runs concurrently with The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis's musical production of the same name. Artists are invited to respond to themes of social action, living in exile, civil rights, how music can affect a civil rights movement, and other inspirations found in the music and life of Miriam Makeba.
The exhibition is open to all artists aged 18 or older residing in the US or abroad. Work created under instruction is not eligible. The entry fee is $35 for up to three entries. Submissions must include up to three JPEG digital images (1000 to 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, 5 MB maximum file size). The exhibition will consist of two- and three-dimensional work in any medium. Wall pieces must be wired for hanging and no larger than 48" X 48" and weigh no more than 20 lbs. Free-standing pieces on pedestals may not exceed 32" X 32" X 60" or weigh more than 40 lbs. No floor or ceiling installed work or video. All work must be the original conception and execution of the artist listed on the application. No reproductions. Work previously exhibited in any Webster Arts gallery, including Paint Webster, is not eligible.
Exhibition dates are March 24-April 30, 2020. The opening reception is Tuesday, March 24, 2020, from 6-7:30 p.m. Artists will be notified by email on Monday, February 24.
