About This Call
This exhibition welcomes artists who have participated in courses at Denver Botanic Gardens School of Botanical Art and Illustration between June 2011 and August 2014. Artworks of all levels and in any media taught in the program are welcome.
All media taught in the program are accepted, provided all artwork is original. Photography and digitally generated work will not be accepted, nor will giclée prints or offset lithographs. Three-dimensional work related to courses taught within the program is acceptable, including hand bound books, sketchbooks, pop-ups, and paper cuts. Each artist may submit two two-dimensional entries plus one three-dimensional entry for juror consideration. Digital image files must be submitted in JPEG format (minimum 1920 pixels on the longest side, 3 MB maximum) with the artist's last name and artwork title as the filename. Upon acceptance, artists will submit matted artwork only (no frame) in 4- or 8-ply white rag mats fitting exactly into a 16" x 20" frame (interior measurement).
The work will be judged according to the standards of the media, typically composition, technical skills, and botanical accuracy. Acceptances and regrets will be sent via email by September 12, 2014. The exhibition runs from November 23, 2014 to February 8, 2015. While on site, artwork is insured by Denver Botanic Gardens. Works may be made available for sale with NFS accepted; if sold, 30% of the sale price will be retained as commission. Works may not be removed until the close of the exhibition. Images submitted may be used in a catalog or publicity in print or electronic form for the exhibition and for promoting the exhibition before, during, and after its run.
