About This Call
The City of Lee's Summit Cultural Arts Division is accepting applications for the 2025 Downtown Sculpture Walk, an outdoor, temporary public art exhibit. Six artists will be selected to install 3D sculptural works appropriate for long-term outdoor display. Sculptures must be available for exhibition between May 2025 through mid-May 2026, with installation tentatively planned for May 1-15, 2025.
Eligible artists must be professional three-dimensional sculptural artists, at least 18 years of age, and own the rights to all submitted works. Artists may submit up to three existing, completed sculptures for consideration. Each submission requires 3-5 images from different perspectives (with the base visible in at least one), a brief written description including title, medium, dimensions, weight, date of construction, and sale price, and a description of how the artwork will be installed. Artwork must be professional quality, durable for long-term outdoor exhibition, able to withstand Missouri weather conditions, and securely bolted to a concrete pad. No shipped artwork will be accepted; artists are responsible for delivering and installing their own work. Artists are also responsible for all costs associated with installation and de-installation, and must insure their artwork during transportation, installation, and de-installation.
Selected artists will receive a $2,000 stipend to offset installation, travel, and per diem costs, payable after completion and sign-off on installation. Artists will receive 100% of sales for any artwork sold during the exhibition. Entries will be juried by a Selection Committee comprised of Cultural Arts Division staff, Cultural Commission members, and members of the Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street Cultural Arts Committee and Design Committee. Artwork will be selected based on artistic merit, artistic context, maintainability, and suitability for public display. Artists can expect notification of selection results by February 21, 2025. The submission deadline is January 17, 2025.
