About This Call

The City of Lee's Summit Cultural Arts Division is accepting applications for the 2020-2021 Downtown Sculpture Walk program. Six artists will be selected to install 3D sculptural works appropriate for long-term outdoor display. The exhibit will run from April 2020 through March 2021. Selected artists will be invited to an opening reception on April 24, 2020 as part of the Fourth Fridays Art Walk.

The Downtown Sculpture Walk is open to local and national artists over 18 years of age. Artists may submit up to two existing, completed sculptures for consideration. Each sculpture requires three images from different perspectives showing the base, along with a description including title, medium, dimensions, weight, date of construction, sale price, and installation method. Artwork must be of professional quality, suitable for long-term outdoor exhibition, and able to withstand Missouri weather conditions including high wind gusts, freezing rain, snow, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Artwork must require no maintenance throughout the duration of the exhibit and be securely bolted to a concrete pad or sit safely on the ground.

Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend to offset costs associated with installation, travel, and per diem, payable after completion and sign-off on the installation process. Artists are responsible for delivering and installing their own work and all associated costs. All artwork must be for sale and remain the same price throughout the exhibition. Artists will receive 100% of the sale for any artwork sold during the exhibition. Sculptures are insured by the City of Lee's Summit for the duration of the exhibit from installation to de-installation. A plaque will be installed with each sculpture including the title, artist's name, website, and sale price. The artist retains copyright for the work. The submission deadline is February 3, 2020.
