About This Call
The Downtown Napa Association and the City of Napa invite artists and artist teams residing in Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Yolo, or Solano County to submit their qualifications for a utility box vinyl wrap project. Up to 13 utility boxes throughout downtown Napa will be transformed into artworks. Selected artists will be paid $500 to create a design that will be transferred to vinyl and wrapped around a signal utility box.
Artist eligibility requirements: Artists must live in Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Yolo, or Solano County and be available to begin work immediately and complete the project by March 2020. Selection criteria include demonstrated successful creative and innovative approach in comparable projects, proven mastery or skill in at least one artistic medium, and ability to create artwork that meets the project objectives of creating a unique experience in downtown, inspiring businesses and residents, and supporting regional artists.
The artwork selection process involves an artist selection and design review panel consisting of representatives from the City of Napa Public Art Steering Committee, the Downtown Napa Association, and arts professionals. Selected artists will be placed under contract and paid $500 to create a conceptual design or select existing artwork for the utility box. The Review Panel will approve designs, with recommendations going to the City of Napa Public Art Steering Committee for final approval. Final designs will be fabricated and installed by the Downtown Napa Association. Timeline: Artists selected February 2020, designs approved March 2020, artworks installed April 2020. Work sample requirements: 1-6 images, 0-6 videos, 1-12 total samples.
