About This Call
Redmond, Oregon is seeking an artist or artist team to design, fabricate, and install a mural in downtown Redmond in a high-visibility location. The City has recently passed a new mural code that allows murals to be placed in accordance with RCAPP guidelines. This project is limited to artists living in the State of Oregon.
The selected artist(s) will be awarded a contract of $10,000 for all phases of the project, with up to an additional $2,000 available in reimbursed materials and installation costs from the building's owner, for a total maximum of $12,000. The mural must be a minimum of 300 square feet, though larger sizes can be proposed without increasing the budget. The mural should be fabricated on panels for installation on the building walls and will remain in place for at least 2 years, becoming the property of the City of Redmond. The project is open to various concepts including representational, abstract, or non-objective visuals, and may include three-dimensional elements with consideration for pedestrian safety.
RCAAPP will review submissions and select up to 5 finalists based on resumes and previous work examples, with preference given to artists with past mural experience. Finalists will be asked to complete a full proposal for their mural concept. Non-selected finalists will receive an honorarium of $250. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and submit a letter of interest (maximum 1,000 words) describing their mural concept and any past mural experience, along with up to 9 examples of previous artworks and/or completed mural projects. Budgets are inclusive of all artist fees, travel, lodging, insurance, and other expenses.
