About This Call

The City of Longmont Art in Public Places program is seeking an artist or artist team to create a mural artwork on a new mixed-use building located at 508 3rd Ave, Longmont, CO 80501, in the heart of Longmont's Certified Creative District downtown. The building is across the street from the Longmont Civic Center and adjacent to the new Hotel Longmont.

The mural will span 5,000 square feet across multiple sides of the building, including the top tier of the parking deck facing east (visible from the civic center and library), west side (visible in the alleyway), and north side (visible in the breezeway and from Kimbark Street). The artwork should be exciting and memorable, utilizing a vibrant color palette. The space consists of predominantly expansive skinny linear areas with select areas for larger rectangular compositions.

Applicants must submit six to ten digital images of previous work, with at least two completed within the last five years of similar work scope and budget (executed work only, no renderings). A written response describing how you will approach the design of skinny linear fields as it relates to your style and aesthetic is required, along with a résumé or CV and three professional references. Previous experience with similar size and scope commissions (either public or private) is required. Submission acceptance is capped at one hundred qualified applicants.

The selection panel will choose three semi-finalists based on style, technical skill, and examples of previous work. Semi-finalists will be invited to create up to three site-specific mural design proposals for presentation to the selection panel on April 4, 2026. Each semi-finalist will receive a $1,000 honorarium to create the proposed designs. Artists living more than 100 miles from the Longmont Museum may request an additional amount up to $250 for travel and lodging expenses for in-person presentation. One artist or artist team will be selected for the commission. The City reserves the right to award one or more applicants, or no applicants, if none of the applications are deemed acceptable, and to revise project parameters as needed.
