About This Call

Downtown Longmont is seeking artists to create a mural on a CenturyLink building in the downtown area, which serves as the hub for independent coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, galleries and small businesses in Longmont, Colorado (population approximately 94,000). The city is located one block west of Main Street, a state highway that hosts local parades including a Holiday parade, Veterans Day parade, Halloween parade and Pet & Doll Parade.

The mural site consists of the East and South facing walls of a building with no windows and minimal barriers. The East facing wall measures 294 feet long by 7 feet tall, and the South facing wall measures 168 feet long by 7 feet tall. The canvas begins approximately 1 foot from the ground and requires ladders for painting. The entire canvas must be covered with paint; no objects may be affixed to the walls. Artists are encouraged to consider Longmont's history, community, creativity, spirit, downtown, arts, culture, agriculture, diversity, energy, innovation and technology in their proposals. All work must be appropriate in subject matter with no religious, sexual or political content, and is designed to be timeless and remain in perpetuity.

Eligibility is limited to artists residing along or near the Front Range of Colorado. Submissions must include up to six images of past work with locations, prices and dates, an artist statement, CV, and one paragraph describing interest in the project. Video material up to two minutes may be submitted. The deadline for submissions is July 30, 2017. Finalists will be notified the week of August 1, with artists' presentations scheduled for the week of August 21. Painting is expected to occur in September/October. Up to $15,000 is available for the winning artist or team, covering all design, execution, materials, travel and required insurance. Up to five finalists invited to submit full proposals will be awarded $400 after presenting their proposals in person or via video conference.
