About This Call
The City of Grand Junction and Downtown Grand Junction are seeking an artist or group of artists to paint a themed mural on a concrete wall as part of a renovation project of the Two Rivers Convention Center. The purpose of the mural is to help activate the west end of Main Street, one of the gateways to Downtown Grand Junction. The mural should provide pedestrians and slow-moving vehicles with a dynamic, interesting experience while traveling down Main Street.
The wall is located on the north side of Two Rivers Convention Center at 1st and Main. It consists of 23 concrete panels that are 9'6" each, arranged in three sections separated by staircases. Section 1 (East Side): 3 panels 29'3" by 3'. Section 2 (Middle): 13 panels 139' by 3'. Section 3 (West Side): 6 panels 54' by 4'. The mural should be extremely colorful, abstract, geometric landscape, and modern. Designs may not include any breach of intellectual property, trademarks, brands, images of illegal activities, or involve the attachment of any objects. The finished artwork will be in the public domain and may be subject to vandalism.
The project budget is $10,000-$15,000. The application deadline is August 9, 2019. Selected artists will be notified by August 12. The mural must be completed by October 5, 2019, during the Downtown Art Festival on Main Street (11am-3pm). The winning artist(s) will be required to provide a $1,000,000 Comprehensive General Liability insurance policy naming the City of Grand Junction as additionally insured. Applicants may submit up to 3 applications and must include a concept sketch, artist budget, and 3 files of past mural work. The call is open to individual artists or groups of artists internationally.
